Golden light below Whernside

Post Hill Woods

A simple picture taken recently whilst out walking in my local woods in Leeds. I’d heard rumours that Deer lived in these woods. Having walked and played in these woods for over 20 years without a sighting I wasn’t so sure, however on this foggy morning I came very close to three Deer so can confirm the rumours are true. Unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough with my camera!

Yorkshire Dales

Yesterday for the first time in ages I had the day off. With a weather forecast of sunshine and showers I set off to the Yorkshire Dales to continue my personal project. Here are four images I took using the Canon 50mm f1.2L lens, I was in an experimental mood and decided to shoot all these wide open @ f1.2. It wasn’t until I got home and saw them on the big screen that I started to appreciate the dreamy soft focus and painterly feel to them. Against landscape photography conventions and rules I think I’ll be utilising the aperture again…

     

Light Painting on the Moors

During a Nightscape workshop I ran last evening on the moors above Todmorden, West Yorkshire we were blessed with great conditions for light painting. I’d been waiting a while for the weather to look suitable for the class and with all the weather boxes ticked we made our way up there. We were not disappointed having an hour or so of exceptional twilight. Here’s a shot I made of the last standing Bridestone stood amongst this fascinating grit stone outcrop…

I’m having an exhibition at the Round Foundry Media Center in Leeds, it’s now showing and runs for at least 2 months. If you’re in the area and have time please pop in and have a look to see some of my favorite images from over the last few years. As the title suggests its outdoor shots from and around the Yorkshire Dales. Opening times are Mon – Fri 9am – 5am, if you do get down there I’m sure there will be one or two to make you smile…
